Click here to check the table lists values for 501 to 1000° Fahrenheit.
By comparing the values in this table, you can see how the Fahrenheit scale uses a much wider range of numbers than Celsius to cover the same range of temperatures.
I have prepared an Excel document listing temperature values up to 1,000° Fahrenheit and their Celsius equivalents as a free download. The file size is quite small at 81KB, so please feel free to download it for your reference.
There is a large discrepancy in the numerical values between the Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature scales, so temperatures in Celsius can often be confusing for people like Americans who are accustomed to using the Fahrenheit scale.
Celsius is a temperature scale that originated from using water as its basis. 0 degrees is defined as the freezing point of water, while 100 degrees is set as the boiling point of water. This makes it rather easy to remember.
Now, what do you think was defined as the standard for measuring temperatures in Fahrenheit?
The Fahrenheit scale was developed by the German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit.
If you think of Celsius as being based on the temperature of water, then Fahrenheit can be thought of as being based on human beings instead.
It is said that when the Fahrenheit scale was created, 0 degrees Fahrenheit was defined as "the coldest temperature a person could produce by using ice and salt," while 100 degrees Fahrenheit was set as a "person's body temperature."
As such, 0 degrees Fahrenheit is equal to -17.8 degrees Celsius, and when a person is ill, the maximum temperature they can exhibit and still move about is 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or 37.8 degrees Celsius.
People need to take caution when their body temperature exceeds 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
In this way, it can be said that the Celsius scale is based on water, while the Fahrenheit scale is based on people.
*Within English-speaking countries, the term Centigrade was used until the year 1948, at which point it was changed to the current term, Celsius.
